Overview

The Head of Data Platforms and Analytics is responsible for leading enterprise data strategy and transformation across the corporation. This position will partner closely with Sr leadership across a range of disciplines to establish and lead the digital transformation of data and drive the science and analytics that delivers actionable insights. The role will manage and lead the planning, evaluating, and selecting the right data capabilities for the enterprise and helping a range of internal and external clients have the best data & analytics insights, processes, architecture, and technologies possible. Serves as an advisor to the executive leadership team to develop and deliver enterprise-wide solutions for complex data challenges, including developing and applying algorithmic models to derive insights, improve decision making, and automate processes. In addition to strategic and technical leadership, this position will recruit, direct and mentor strong senior leadership and technical talent for the Data Engineering & Analytics team. 

This position will champion data governance in alignment with data programs and business strategies and goals. As an IT leader, this person will also focus on our mission to advance IT maturity, enabling data-driven decisions and automation opportunities that lead to excellence.



Responsibilities

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determine the optimal data design, science and delivery strategies to support objectives across the business driving innovation, setting standards, and executing delivery of high impact initiatives
  • Define and plan the implementation of new processes and technology and provide guidance to IT professionals and other staff within the organization
  • Determine strategy for people, process, product and technology and date in line with business and customer needs at the Division, Region and National level
  • Establish and execute on an enterprise data strategy in support of organizational objectives, developing short- and long-term roadmaps to achieve success
  • Partner with executives to establish the vision for managing data as a business asset, and to leverage data using research and analytics to maximize the return on data assets
  • Collaborate with leadership to understand business needs and opportunities
  • Provide a high level of engagement, collaboration and communication with staff
  • Lead assessments to identify data assets, evaluate current technology stack and capabilities. Establish a roadmap for advancing these areas in order to successfully execute on data strategy
  • Propose plans to evaluate, select, and implement scalable and sustainable systems and solutions in partnership with functional area SMEs in support of data infrastructure, data engineering, data governance, data analytics and data science; ensuring data are aggregated, cleaned, consistently formatted and readily available
  • Develop an enterprise plan and establish a Data Science platform and capabilities, including ML/AI, supporting organizational teams. Scope, define, and implement plans to advance data science disciplines and best practices, to design, implement, run and interpret experiments, create dashboards, draw inferences, and generate recommendations from modeling and measurement
  • Identify skillset gaps and recruit talent with high potential for growth. Train and develop talent to support the vision and mission. Manage and grow employees in capability and capacity
  • Advance IT maturity, enabling data-driven decisions and automation opportunities that lead to reduced timelines and resources while increasing overall capabilities
  • Implement quick, short-term wins for users while building infrastructure towards the long-term vision
  • Act as a change agent internal to IT while influencing change outside IT. Educate and advocate to instill in staff the philosophy that data science is not just a technical discipline but is a capability to be integrated into the ways we conduct business throughout the organization
  • Develop key performance metrics and oversight to measure and review progress against objectives
  • Build a reputation as a high-integrity, outcome driven Data & Analytics department with the ability to leverage data to solve challenges in oncology drug discovery and development. Champion data governance programs and initiatives, ensuring appropriate sponsorship and oversight of policy and compliance
  • Advocate for and champion a data-driven culture, supporting related competencies and data literacy across the enterprise
  • Other job duties as assigned



Qualifications

Education and Experience Required

  • Master’s degree or equivalent required
  • 15+ years of experience in a related field
  • 12+ years experience in data architecture and technology with leadership roles in a matrixed environment

Additional Skills

  • Experience with enterprise-level data analysis, automation, and providing data-focused system integration solutions
  • Thorough understanding of current state and future trends in data architecture, connectivity, data integration, cloud computing, data analytics and data science
  • An effective communicator able to bridge between business teams and IT
  • Demonstrated success in advocacy for and implementation of complex, enterprise-wide projects
  • Demonstrated skillset for problem solving and a history of successful collaborations Must be creative and have demonstrated ability to think beyond what is presently possible
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to package and syndicate a message, garner business support, drive and document vision / strategy, plan & organize, providing progress on multiple projects Influence
  • Ability to factually resolve conflicts and differences of opinion in a respectful yet assertive way
  • Outcome oriented: Balance creativity and innovation against practical / cost effective approaches

 

Physical Requirements: This is primarily a sedentary office position which requires the incumbent to have the ability to operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, and move and carry up to 25 lbs. Finger dexterity is necessary.
