Summary of Position:

As a part of the LMC Information Security Team, the Network Security Engineer will be responsible for the daily operations of securing the data transport network along with the implementation and administration of network security hardware and software throughout the entire network infrastructure. The Network Security Engineer performs two core functions for the enterprise. The first is the day-to-day management of the network security systems while the second is the design, deployment, and maintenance of network and cloud security solutions. Additional tasks will include involvement in the incident response program, participation in architecture review, documenting system configurations, improving security posture, and operational process improvement.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Design, implement, manage, and defend a “zero trust”, defense-in-depth network.
  • Coordinate with internal Technology team, external managed services team, and other stakeholders to ensure network security principles are 'built-in' from the beginning.
  • Work with managed service provider to iterate network security posture to better protect against attacks and detect new vectors.
  • Work with managed service provider to develop automation and utilize frameworks to scale both protection and mitigation tools. Work with managed service provider to understand, analyze, and correlate technical vulnerabilities and implement countermeasures to mitigate them.
  • Lead network efforts to mitigate and investigate security incidents.
  • Configure and/or support, and maintain on-prem and cloud security environments including NextGen Firewalls, WAF, SDWAN, VPN, and SSL Decryption technologies.
  • Solve complex technical problems through engineering, including requirements analysis, design, development, implementation, and testing.
  • Maintain operational configurations of network security solutions as per the established baselines.
  • Provide on-call support for end users for all network security solutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors. Research, evaluate, and stay current on emerging security tools, techniques, and technologies.
  • Recommend additional security solutions or enhancements to existing security solutions to improve overall enterprise security.
  • Participate in multiple projects or department initiatives simultaneously. Assist in the development and implementation of internal Security projects.
  • Evaluate and test new vendors and in house network initiatives for security issues.
  • Mentor and evangelize security practices through cross functional work with Technology team and other stakeholders.
  • Keep LMC’s infrastructure secure through active operation and defense of critical network infrastructure.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Network certifications at expert level.
  • Five (5) or more years of Network Security Experience including offensive/defensive security. One or more of the following Information Security Certifications preferred: CISSP, CCSP, CCSK, CCNA Security, Security+.
  • Experience in public (AWS preferred), private and/or hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience researching, building and implementing defensive security systems and leveraging layered security models to defend critical network infrastructure.
  • Expertise in understanding threat models to better protect against attacks or detect new vectors.
  • Proficient in network and security design, implementation, and administration leveraging industry standard platforms from vendors such as Palo Alto Networks.
  • Experience with network security management tools and techniques and security testing tools (performance and threat-based).
  • Experience with Switching (Capacity Planning & VLAN’s), Routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, ECMP, PBF), WAN Technologies (MPLS, VPLS, VPN), public cloud networking, and Security (IPS, RBAC, etc.)
  • Experience leading network efforts to prevent, mitigate and investigate security incidents. Experience in monitoring and management of intrusion detection systems and firewall devices.

  • Some travel may be required for internal, conference, customer, partner and vendor meetings.
