The Accounting Intern is responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of the general ledger, homebuilding reporting and tracking, revenue recognition, cash receipts and deposits, month-end reports.

Your Responsibilities on the Team 

  • Assists with month end close  

  • Maintains sound accounting methods and systems in accordance with corporate policies and procedures

  • Prepares job cost journal entries Prepare bank account and general ledger reconciliations

  • Analyzes job costs, completes cost of sales and explains gross margin variances compared to original  budgets

  • Reviews and posts soft cost transfers, CIP common cost, and closed job income and expenses

  • Completes timely and accurate financial reporting to division and corporate offices

  • Assists in  preparation of budgets, reviews, updates, and analysis including annual business plan, projections, and special projects analysis

  • Ensures accuracy of monthly backlog profitability reports through analysis of job costs.

  • Assists in preparation accuracy of weekly reporting requirements

  • Prepares monthly revenue entries, various month-end accruals, reclass and allocation entries 

  • Prepares and inputs Homesite information onto land stage home report in JDE software 

  • Runs ESSBASE system on daily basis to track all overhead expenses for accuracy and to compare to original budges, projections, and forecasts

  • Runs monthly fixed assets

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum two years general office experience required

  • Prefer two years general accounting experience

  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft Word and Excel

  • JD Edwards experience preferred

  • Excellent attention to detail

Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements

This is primarily a sedentary office position which requires the ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and carry materials and supplies weighing 25 lbs or less. Finger dexterity is necessary.

Additional Requirements

Ability to professionally perform multiple, detail-orientated tasks; good written, verbal and organizational skills; able to follow directions from a supervisor.
