We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Category Manager – Forest Products Commodities to join our dynamic procurement team. The ideal candidate will have 10 or more years of experience in purchasing and managing national lumber programs, possess a deep understanding of the lumber trading, and demonstrate a proven track record of managing over 100 million dollars in spend annually. This role is pivotal in ensuring a consistent and cost-effective supply of forest product commodities for our residential construction projects.

Your Responsibilities on the Team 

Market Analysis: 

  • Conduct thorough market research to stay informed about trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply-demand dynamics in the national lumber market. 

  • Analyze and interpret data to make informed decisions on purchasing strategies. 

Supplier Relationship Management: 

  • Develop and manage strong relationships with national and regional lumber suppliers. 

  • Negotiate annual pricing programs, terms, and conditions to secure the best possible deals while ensuring quality standards are met. 

Cost Management: 

  • Implement cost-effective strategies to optimize the procurement process and maximize profitability. 

  • Collaborate with Divisions, VP of Purchasing and Directors of Purchasing to develop and manage budgets related to lumber procurement. 

Quality Assurance: 

  • Collaborate with quality control teams to establish and enforce strict quality standards for all lumber purchases. 

  • Conduct regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with quality specifications. 

Risk Management: 

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain, including supply shortages, pricing fluctuations, and geopolitical factors that may impact lumber procurement. 

  • Five or more years of experience hedging with lumber future contracts.  

Contract Negotiation: 

  • Draft, review, and negotiate Master Supply Agreements with suppliers, ensuring terms and conditions align with company objectives and legal requirements.  

Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including construction, project management, and finance, to align lumber procurement with project timelines and financial goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. 

  • Proven 10 years experience as a Category Manager or related filed, preferably at a national or regional level. 

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills. 

  • In-depth knowledge of the lumber market, industry trends, and regulatory requirements. 

  • Familiarity with supply chain management software and tools. 

  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in data interpretation. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds. 

  • This is position is stationary for periods of time. 

  • Travel up to 25% of the time. 

Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements:

This is primarily a sedentary office position which requires the incumbent to have the ability to operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, and move and carry up to 25 lbs. Finger dexterity is necessary.

General Overview of Compensation & Benefits:

We reasonably expect the base compensation offered for this position to range from an annual salary of $1.00 - $100,000, subject to adjustment based on business-related factors such as employee qualifications, geographic pay differentials (e.g., cost of labor/living, etc.), and operational considerations.
